The artwork originated as a piece of driftwood found down at Bonagee pier many many moons ago.
It has been waiting patiently for the right project.
Welch believes this particular piece to be the remains of a structure from a harbour or pier, that the tide ripped away from its home.
She has used recycled glass jars & glass to represent the eyes of Loch Súile (the Lake of the Eyes/Shaddows or in English Lough Swilly).
Tara Eileen Welch has been working with stained glass for the past 20 years. In the last decade she had been making commercial pieces of small stained glass art to be sold at at local markets, however with the global pandemic impacting on the closure of most of these markets she has had the opportunity to develop more sculptural, one off pieces.
She has been collecting large pieces of driftwood for a few years now locally, drying out, storing and waiting for the driftwood to dictate to her what designs should be added to them.
