#LoveToDraw Ireland was a project developed by Voluntary Arts Ireland in collaboration with Artlink, the Glucksman Gallery, Cork and Take A Part, Carlow. The idea was a simple one: to encourage people to take up drawing as a pastime in a way that brought people together, fired up their creativity, raised their spirits and widened participation in the visual arts. It offered people across Ireland a gateway into the visual arts and creative expression, encouraging them to interact with the world around them through drawing and to share their creative endeavours with others.
The project was due to involve artist-led drawing workshops during May 2020, followed by an exhibition at the Glucksman Gallery in November 2020. However they were postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions and rescheduled to autumn 2020. At the last minute restrictions were reintroduced, so the workshops were completely reimagined and hosted as free online workshops led in Donegal by artist Elaine McGinn. As it became clear that an exhibition at the Glucksman wasn’t going to be possible the partners decided to produce a pack of postcards each featuring a drawing by a participant and a video documenting the outcomes of the project. In addition Artlink staged an exhibition in the windows of the former ESB showroom in the heart of Buncrana from March 29th till April 30th.
